Best Movie of the Year, 1979

Hop into the way-back machine with me on a journey to right the wrongs of the general public and the academia and award the best movie of 1979 to THE WARRIORS.

The Warriors is one of those movies that has a visible and pronounced boner. From the energetic, dizzying credit sequence to the annoyingly oft-quoted beachfront ending, The Warriors is a manic depressive fun house operated by a stillborn fetus. It's never afraid to use silence to create atmosphere, or slow-motion violence to create awesomeness. The Warriors is one of those movies that they'll remake starring rappers and Ethan Hawke and it will suck and you'll tell all your friends that they should see the original but then when they see it, they'll call it boring because no one gets their brains kicked out in it. The Warriors is also one of those movies that got a bullshit "ultimate director's cut" dvd release that splices comic book style intros to many of the film's most important scenes, effectively reducing the film to Ang Lee Hulk levels. It sucks and you should stay away from it. If you wanna see it, I'll letcha borrow it. I got the original.
